The total value of retail sales in Japan advanced 0.9 percent on year in June, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Wednesday – coming in at 11.457 trillion yen.
That missed forecasts for an increase of 1.1 percent following the 3.0 percent spike in May.
Sales from large retailers dipped an annual 0.3 percent to 1.641 trillion yen versus forecasts for an increase of 1.8 percent after surging 5.3 percent in the previous month.
Wholesale sales added 0.9 percent on year to 26.979 trillion yen, the ministry said, while commercial sales also advanced 0.9 percent to 38.436 trillion yen.
On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.8 percent, beating forecasts for a decline of 0.9 percent after rising 1.7 percent a month earlier.
