Poland’s unemployment rate climbed more-than-expected in December, after remaining stable in the prior month, figures from the Central Statistical Office showed Tuesday.

The registered jobless rate rose to 9.8 percent in December from 9.6 percent in November. Economists had expected the unemployment rate to increase slightly to 9.7 percent.

In the corresponding month of the previous year, the jobless rate was 11.4 percent.

The number of registered unemployed persons grew to 1.56 million in December from 1.53 million in the preceding month. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 1.82 million.
