Portugal’s consumer confidence weakened marginally in October, figures from Statistics Portugal showed Thursday.

The consumer confidence index fell to -17.4 in October from more than a 14-year high of -17.2 in September. The latest decrease interrupted the upward trend observed since early 2013.

The overall economic confidence also declined in October after stabilizing in the previous two months. The corresponding index dropped to 1.2 in October from 1.4 in the previous month.

The index measuring financial situation of the households over the next twelve months worsened to -11.9 in October from -6.9 in the prior month. At the same time, the assessment of the general economic situation of the country strengthened in October, with the index rising notably to 13.1 from 7.5.

Unemployment expectations of the country over the next twelve months grew in October. The relevant index climbed to -44.9 from -41.9 in September. Meanwhile, the expectations regarding saving capacity over the year rose to -3.7 from -4.2.
