Sweden’s foreign trade balance turned to a deficit in October from a year ago, as exports fell and imports remained flat, preliminary figures from Statistics Sweden showed Thursday.

The trade balance showed a deficit of SEK 0.9 billion in October against a surplus of SEK 0.4 billion in the corresponding month last year. In September, the surplus was SEK 3.2 billion.

The value of exports fell 1.0 percent year-over-year in October, while imports showed no variations.

Exports decreased to SEK 103.1 billion from SEK 105.4 million in September. At the same time, imports grew to SEK 104.0 billion from SEK 102.2 billion.

Trade with the non-EU member states resulted in a surplus of SEK 12.2 billion, while the EU trade showed a deficit of SEK 13.1 billion.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the net trade surplus shrank to SEK 0.5 billion October from SEK 0.7 billion in September.

During the first ten months of the year, total trade surplus of the country grew to SEK 18.5 billion from SEK 14.5 billion in the same period a year earlier.
