The Trump vote and Brexit vote aren’t necessarily part of the same wave but they are certainly part of a rising tide of dissatisfaction.
The promise of open borders and open trade was that it might be disruptive but would ultimately prove prosperous for everyone. Years of stagnating growth and growing income inequality have left people feeling like that pact was broken.
