Miami’s Arts + Entertainment District (A+E District) announces the launch of A+Eats: The Search for Miami‘s Next Great Restaurant Concept, a community-driven contest aimed at discovering Miami’s next ‘it’ restaurant. Whether an established or aspiring chef or restaurateur, anyone with the “chops” to deliver a truly unique restaurant concept that embraces the spirit of Miami’s A+E District, as well as the talent and know-how to back it up, can enter. The prize: a rent-free restaurant space within Miami’s A+E District for one year.
Centrally located between Wynwood and Downtown Miami, the burgeoning A+E District has become a local watering hole and outpost for both locals and visitors, given its propensity for culturally rich and locally rooted events and happenings. Already home to a budding restaurant scene with Fooq’s, Mignonette, and Vice City, the A+E District aims to further enhance its culinary offerings by launching a contest as unique as the area itself.
“This contest is intended to celebrate and further elevate Miami’s local talent, while searching for the area’s next ‘it’ chef or restaurant,” said Ron Gottesman, co-principal of NR Investments, the visionary behind Miami’s Arts + Entertainment District. “Start-up costs can make it difficult for new businesses to take flight, so we’re giving one winner the chance to turn their restaurant concept into a reality.”
Participants must visit TheNewTropic.com/AEats beginning Monday, August 10 at 9am ET through Monday, August 31, 2015 at 5pm ET to fill out and submit an online application regarding their proposed restaurant concept. Submissions will be judged on three criteria: originality, know-how, and community. Following Monday, August 31, a shortlist of semifinalists will be selected and then undergo a more detailed screening to select five finalists. The final five candidates will be invited to compete in a live cookoff event on October 17, 2015. The winning concept, selected by a cross-disciplinary panel of judges, will receive a restaurant space rent-free for one year and available for operation beginning early 2016.
“This is a community underpinned by easy access to public transportation, affordable housing, and a strong sense of belonging through its robust roster of monthly events and activities, and so it’s in true A+E nature to turn to our community to help us find Miami’s next best restaurant concept,” added Nir Shoshani, co-principal of NR Investments.
