The Asian markets turned in a mixed performance on Thursday as some late-session selling pressure in Chinese and Hong Kong stocks as well as Samsung Electronics’ lackluster results for the second quarter tempered gains stemming from rising commodity prices, solid earnings from a slew of Japanese companies and the Fed’s upbeat assessment of economic conditions. After a two-day meeting of its policy committee, the Federal Reserve observed signs of an improving U.S. labor market and economy, but refrained from signaling the timing of a rate hike.
