Australia had a merchandise trade deficit of A$1.322 billion in March, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.
That missed forecasts for a shortfall of A$1.00 billion following the downwardly revised A$1.609 billion deficit in February (originally -A$1.256 billion).
Exports were down 2.0 percent on month to A$27.217 billion, while imports dipped 2.0 percent to A$28.539 billion.
