Australia had a merchandise trade deficit of A$2.317 billion in September, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.
That beat forecasts for a shortfall of A$2.900 billion following the A$2.711 billion deficit in August.
Exports were up 3.0 percent on month to A$27.428 billion, while imports added 2.0 percent to A$29.475 billion.
