The unemployment rate in Australia fell to a seasonally adjusted 5.8 percent in February, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.

That beat forecasts for 6.0 percent, which would have been unchanged from the January reading.

The Australian economy added 300 jobs in February – well shy of forecast for an increase of 12,000 following the 7,500 decline in the previous month.

The participation rate was 64.9 percent – also below forecasts for 65.2 percent, which would have been unchanged.
