The total value of retail sales in Australia was up a seasonally adjusted 0.4 percent on month in August, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Friday – worth A$24.404 billion.
That was in line with forecasts following the 0.1 percent contraction in July.
Among the individual components, sales for other retailing were up 0.5 percent, followed by cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.4 percent), food retailing (0.1 percent), household goods retailing (0.2 percent), department stores (0.4 percent) and clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (0.1 percent).
By region, sales were up 0.4 percent in New South Wales, followed by Victoria (0.3 percent), Western Australia (0.2 percent), Tasmania (0.1 percent) and the Australian Capital Territory (0.1 percent).
Queensland and South Australia were relatively unchanged, while the Northern Territory fell 0.1 percent.
