Inflation expectations in Australia increased again in May, survey data from the Melbourne Institute showed Thursday.

The expected inflation rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 3.6 percent in May from 3.4 percent in April, the Consumer Inflationary Expectations survey revealed.

The proportion of respondents expecting the inflation rate to fall within the 0-5 percent range decreased to 71.5 percent from 73.7 percent a month ago.

At the same time, the weighted mean of responses within this range dropped to 2.4 percent from 2.6 percent in April.
