Inflationary expectations in Australia declined in January, survey data from the Melbourne Institute showed Thursday.
The expected inflation rate fell by 0.4 percentage points to 3.6 percent from 4 percent in December.
In January, the proportion of respondents expecting the inflation rate to drop within the 0-5 percent range decreased to 72.1 percent from 74.2 percent in December.
While the proportion of respondents expecting the inflation rate to fall within the 0-5 percent range has declined steadily since November 2015, from 78.4 percent to 74.2 percent and to 72.1 percent, the weighted mean of responses within this range remains relatively stable around 2.6 percent.
