Austria’s consumer price inflation accelerated to the highest level in four months in December, largely driven by the price developments of mineral products, figures from Statistics Austria showed Tuesday.
The consumer price index rose 1.0 percent year-over-year in December, faster than the 0.6 percent climb in November.
The latest rate of inflation was the quickest since August, when prices grew the same 1.0 percent.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages went up 0.4 percent annually in December and utility costs increased by 0.8 percent. At the same time, transport costs dropped 2.1 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices grew 0.4 percent in December.
The EU measure of inflation, or HICP climbed at a faster pace of 1.1 percent in December from a year ago, following a 0.5 percent spike in the preceding month.
Month-on-month, the harmonized index of consumer prices rose 0.5 percent in December.
In 2015, the average inflation rate in the consumer price index was 0.9 percent versus 1.7 percent in the previous year.
