Austria’s consumer price inflation slowed in August, figures from Statistics Austria showed Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose 1.0 percent year-over-year in August, but slower than the 1.2 percent increase in the previous month. On a monthly basis, prices edged down 0.2 percent.

The main reason for the decrease in inflation were the fuel and heating oil prices, the stronger annual fall than in July, the agency said.

Utility costs grew 1.0 percent in August from a year ago and prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0.8 percent. At the same time, transport costs dipped 3.2 percent.

The EU measure of inflation, or HICP, climbed at a slower pace of 0.9 percent annually in August, following a 1.1 percent rise in July. Month-on-month, the HICP dropped 0.2 percent.
