Former footballer David Beckham has backed the “Remain” camp on Tuesday much to the delight of “remaineers”. Beckham is one of the UK’s most popular football stars and is still followed by the millions of his fans worldwide.

In addition to that, it is how he explained his stance is surely going to make a difference. In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said how he arrived at the decision and that is through football. He cited examples of the success of Manchester United. He said the core team that won English and European titles had been made up of British players but, “we were a better and more successful team because of a Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, the leadership of an Irishman Roy Keane and the skill of a Frenchman in Eric Cantona”

He also said that we live in a vibrant and connected world where together makes it strong.

A happy Cameron responded via Twitter saying that he is happy to see Beckham supporting to remain and he said, “David Beckham is clear: we should be facing the problems of the world together and not alone”.

The pound has been rising this week and is currently trading at 1.475 against the US dollar.
