BvS Stalls, Warner’s Shifts Release Date For Wonder Woman

$TWX, $DIS

Batman v Superman may well turn a profit but not the money machine the studio hoped for when it poured massive resources into making the giant tentpole with a big star, with a budget in this case said to be in excess of $300-M, and staring Ben Affleck.

So in that wake of reality…

Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner (NYSE:TWX) shifted the release dates for its upcoming films Wonder Woman and Jungle Book, plus it has dated 3 more currently untitled films.

Jungle Book, which will be directed by Andy Serkis, is moving back a full year, from 6 October 2017, to 19 October 2018.

Warner Bros.’ Jungle Book movie is one of 2 competing films based on the Rudyard Kipling’s book of the same name.

Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) version, directed by Jon Favreau, comes out on 15 April this year in the US.

In DC news, Wonder Woman, which will star Gal Gadot, who made her debut in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, date is moving up from 23 June 2017, to 2 June 2017.

Warner Bros. also set dates for two of its now-untitled DC films: 5 October 2018, and 1 November 2019.

These new dates are set for yet-to-be announced films and are in addition to the already set DC films, which include Suicide Squad (5 August 2016), The Flash (16 March 2018), The Justice League Part One (17 November 2017), Aquaman (27 July 2018), Shazam! (5 April 2019), Justice League Part Two (14 June 2019), Cyborg (3 April 2020) and Green Lantern Corps (19 June 2020).

The latest DC film, Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, dove 78% in its 2nd frame, but held #1. It earned $51.3-M in its 2nd weekend for a domestic box office take of $260.4-M
