Consumer prices in China were up 1.2 percent on year in May, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.

That was slightly below expectations for 1.3 percent, and it was down from 1.5 percent in April.

Food prices were up 1.6 percent on year in May, while non-food prices gained 1.0 percent.

On a monthly basis, inflation eased 0.2 percent – the same rate as in April.

The bureau also said that producer prices were down 4.6 percent on year – beneath forecasts for -4.5 percent but unchanged from the previous month.
