Crude oil futures tumbled Monday as traders returned to their desks after the Christmas break.
West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery dropped $1.29, or 3.4%, to finish at $36.81 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
With the loss, crude oil was within a few dollars of this month’s 6-year lows.
A global supply glut and demand concerns have driven oil sharply lower since summertime.
Prices are down about 40 percent in 2015.
