Czech industrial production growth improved as expected at the start of the year, after easing sharply in the previous month, figures from the Czech Statistical Office showed Tuesday.

Industrial production rose 1.0 percent year-over-year in January, in line with expectations, slightly faster than the 0.7 percent increase in December. Production has been rising since December 2014.

On a working-day-adjusted basis, industrial production grew 3.5 percent in January from a year ago.

Production in the manufacturing sector advanced 2.5 percent annually in January, while mining and quarrying and output fell by 2.1 percent. Production in the utility sector registered a decline of 6.0 percent.

Month-on-month, industrial production rose a seasonally adjusted 3.7 percent in January.

Separately, the statistical office announced that construction output plunged 10.4 percent yearly in January, reversing a 3.3 percent decrease in the preceding month. It was the first decrease in three months.

Monthly, construction output increased a seasonally adjusted 0.9 percent at the beginning of the year.
