The average gross monthly wages in the Czech Republic grew at a faster-than-expected pace in the three months ended September, figures from the Czech Statistical Office showed Friday.

In real terms, gross monthly wages climbed 3.4 percent year-over-year in the third quarter, faster than the 2.8 percent rise in the previous quarter.

Economists had expected a 3.1 percent increase for the month. The wage index has been rising since the first quarter of 2014.

In nominal terms, average gross earnings rose at a faster pace of 3.8 percent yearly in the September quarter, following a 3.5 percent hike in the preceding quarter.

The average real wages in the business sphere also went up 3.4 percent in the third quarter from a year ago, after a 2.6 percent rise in the previous three-month period.

Quarter-on-quarter, average gross wages increased a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent in the three-month period to September.
