Czech retail sales growth quickened for the second straight month in October, figures from the Czech Statistical Office showed Friday.

Retail sales excluding automobile trade climbed an unadjusted 5.6 percent year-over-year in October, faster than the 5.2 percent increase in the prior month, which was revised up from 5.1 percent. In August, sales had risen 3.5 percent.

Retail sale of automotive fuel alone grew 7.6 percent in October from a year ago and sales of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores went up by 2.9 percent.

On a working-day-adjusted basis, retail sales advanced 6.8 percent annually in October.

Retail sales, including sale of automotive trade, expanded 7.4 percent in October from the previous year, surpassing economists’ expectations for a 5.3 percent gain. In September, the rate of growth was 7.0 percent.

Monthly, retail sales inched up a seasonally adjusted 1.0 percent in October.
