Czech Republic’s foreign trade surplus increased in May from a year ago, as exports grew faster than imports, figures from the Czech Statistical Office showed Thursday.

The trade surplus in the national concept rose to CZK 18.2 billion in May from CZK 10.6 billion in the corresponding month last year.

However, it was lower than April’s surplus of CZK 25.7 billion. The expected surplus for May was CZK 15.3 billion.

Exports surged 6.8 percent year-over-year in May and imports went up by 4.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, the seasonally adjusted exports fell 0.4 percent in May, while imports climbed by 0.2 percent.
