Denmark’s retail sales dropped marginally in August after rising in the previous two months, preliminary figures from Statistics Denmark showed Tuesday.
Retail sales edged down 0.1 percent month-over-month in August, reversing a 0.8 percent climb in July. In June, sales had risen 1.2 percent.
The slight decline in August was mostly due to a 4.7 percent fall in the sales of clothing. Sales of other consumer goods also dropped 0.1 percent. At the same time, food sales grew 0.9 percent.
On an annual basis, retail sales rose 0.2 percent in August, which was much slower than the 3.7 percent growth in the preceding month. However, it was the third successive monthly increase.
In the three months ended August, total retail sales advanced 0.8 percent compared with the previous three-month period.
