Denmark retail sales grew in March after falling in the previous month, led by better sales in clothing and consumer goods, and consumer confidence remained largely unchanged in April, figures from Statistics Denmark showed Wednesday.
Retail sales rose a price-and-seasonally adjusted 0.5 percent from February, when sales dropped 0.1 percent. In January, sales climbed 0.2 percent.
Clothing sales grew 1.6 percent, which was the first increase in four months. Sales of other consumer goods rose 0.7 percent, recovering from a 0.5 percent fall in the previous month.
Year-on-year, retail sales grew 2.7 percent in March after a 0.9 percent gain in the previous month. It was the fourth consecutive month of gain.
In the first three months of the year, retail sales grew 0.2 percent from the fourth quarter of 2014 and 1.8 percent year-on-year.
Separately, the statistical agency announced that Danish consumer confidence eased slightly to 13.7 in April from 13.9 in March.
Households’ view on their future financial situation improved for a third month with the index climbing to 17.4 from 17.1. Their expectations on the country’s economic situation in a year eased slightly and the index dropped to 25.3 from 25.6.
Further, consumers continue to expect unemployment to decrease in a year. However, they were again pessimistic regarding big-ticket purchases after showing optimism in March.
