At 9 am ET Tuesday, S&P/Case-Shiller is scheduled to release its house price index for August. The consensus estimate calls for a 0.1 percent month-over-month increase in the 20-city seasonally adjusted house prices.

Ahead of the data, the greenback showed mixed trading against its major rivals.
While the greenback slipped against the yen and the euro, it was steady against the pound and the franc.

The greenback was worth 1.1057 against the euro, 120.41 against the yen, 0.9837 against the franc and 1.5332 against the pound as of 8:55 am ET.
