Donald Trump Continues To Lead GOP Presidential Candidates

Donald Trump remains the leader in the race for the GOP presidential nomination in the wake of the 1st debate, a new NBC/SurveyMonkey poll shows.

The poll was conducted overnight Friday into Saturday morning, while controversy raged over his debate exchanges with Fox News moderator Megyn Kelly and his remarks about her later, coupled with RedState’s Erick Erickson’s decision to dis-invite Mr. Trump to speak to the RedState Gathering Saturday.

Donald Trump was the choice of 23% of the Republican primary voters who were asked who they would vote for if the primary were being held right now, a 1-pt uptick from last week. Senator Ted Cruz moved into 2nd with 13% up 7 pts from the prior week.

Below is how the other candidates stacked up, as follows:

Ben Carson, 11% (+ 3 pts)
Carly Fiorina, 8% (+6 pts)
Marco Rubio, 8%(unch)
Jeb Bush, 7% (-3 pts)
Scott Walker, 7% ( -3 pts)
Mike Huckabee, 5% (up 1 pt)
Rand Paul, 5% (-1 pt)
Rick Perry, 2% (unch)
John Kasich, 2%t (-1 pt)
Lindsey Graham, 1% (unch)
Bobby Jindal, 1% (unch)
Chris Christie, 1% (-2 pts)
George Pataki, 0% (unch)
Rick Santorum, 0% (- 1 pt)

Sunday, Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump continued his defense of his latest controversy on the morning news shows, saying he “said nothing wrong whatsoever” when he criticized Fox News debate moderator Megyn Kelly.

Ms. Kelly grilled him on comments he has made on Twitter about women in Thursday’s debate.

In his response to CNN Friday, Mr. Trump said of Ms. Kelly, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”

Critics said Donald Trump was referring to hormones with that comment, though Mr. Trump himself said he was going to finish the sentence with “from her nose,” but ended up moving on to other subjects.

Mr. Trump said that only a “deviant” would think he was referring to Ms. Kelly menstruating with the “blood” comment.

Donald Trump said Jeb Bush is a weak candidate, and suggested former Hewlett-Packard CEO and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham are vocally criticizing him only because they are so low in the polls and need the attention.
