Donald Trump Reminds Us Who Remember Of Ronald Reagan
Donald Trump says he is no more liberal than late President Ronald Reagan, a registered Democrat for most of his life, who was “was a little bit less conservative than people think.”
“Ronald Reagan was a Democrat and he was sort of liberal,” Mfr. Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Tuesday evening. “He was a Democrat with a liberal bent and he became a great conservative. He had something very special.
“If you think of it, he was a little bit less conservative than people think, but he had a great heart and I have a great heart.”
Conservatives have been attacking Donald Trump’s positions on some issues, such as abortion and healthcare, saying that he leans toward liberal viewpoints.
Further, Mr. Trump has come under fire for donating money to Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, but says he donated money to both parties because he is a businessman.
Donald Trump says his campaign is prepared to lay out specific policy plans, but that he is not ready yet.
In the meantime, he is selling his strong personality and criticizing his rivals, particularly Jeb Bush for a lack of passion.
“There’s no energy there, no energy. We need energy. We need tone,” Mr. Trump said of Mr. Bush during a 50-min speech to more than 2,000 people at a Republican fundraising dinner in Michigan, his first public appearance since the first GOP primary debate. “We have heads being chopped off because there are Christians in the Middle East. … The world is cracking up and they’re worried about my tone.”
