Donald Trump’s Billion Dollar GOP Fundraiser Underway
The GOP’s $1-B fundraising effort to support Donald Trump bid for the Oval Office is underway.
The 1st events in the drive kicks off in Los Angeles with investor Thomas Barrack Jr., hosting a dinner fundraiser on 25 May.
The Trump campaign is finalizing plans with the RNC to participate in a joint “Victory Fund” committee that will be legally able to accept large donations. It’ll be headed by a group of party donors, including Ray Washburne, a former RNC Finance Chairman.
Because of all the committees involved, an individual donor could give nearly $135-K in loser Mitt Romney’s run, but that limit is expected to be much higher with the Trump Victory Fund.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan met face to face for the 1st time Thursday to set forth unifying the party that has been torn over his rise to the GOP Presidential nomination.
Donald Trump and Paul Ryan said they had taken a “positive step” toward unifying the Republican Party with the goal of winning the White House in November.
“With that focus, we had a great conversation this morning. While we were honest about our few differences, we recognize that there are also many important areas of common ground,” the joint statement said. “This was our 1st meeting, but it was a very positive step toward unification.”
At his regular weekly press conference Thursday, Mr. Ryan said he was pleased with the meeting, but did not reveal details.
“This is our 1st meeting, I was very encouraged with this meeting, but this is a process. It takes some time, you do not put it together in 45 minutes,” he said. “We had a very good and encouraging, productive conversation.”
The meeting was great,” Reince Priebus, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, tweeted after. “It was a very positive step toward party unity.” Mr. Priebus attended the opening meeting with the 2 before Messrs Trump and Ryan sat down with a small group of GOP House leaders.
GOP lawmakers are increasingly calling for the party to end the infighting and unite to beat likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in November, and many want to see Mr. Ryan on board.
