Estonia’s foreign trade deficit increased in July from a year ago, as exports fell faster than imports, figures from Statistics Estonia showed Thursday.
The trade deficit rose to EUR 164.6 million in July from EUR 158.9 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. In June, the shortfall was EUR 157.7 million.
Exports fell 6.0 percent year-over-year in July and imports dropped by 4.0 percent. The decrease in exports and imports was mostly influenced by a fall in the trade of electrical equipment and mineral products.
Exports to EU member states slid 4.0 percent annually in July and imports from EU dropped 2.0 percent.
In the January to July period, total trade deficit of the country narrowed notably to EUR 831.7 million from EUR 1.03 billion in the same period a year ago. Both exports and imports dropped by 1.0 percent and 4.0 percent, respectively.
