F1: Australian Driver, Daniel Ricciardo on the Pole for Red Bull at Monaco

The Monaco Grand Prix is the race of the year that every driver dreams of winning. Like the Indy 500 or Le Mans, it stands alone, distinct from the sport from which it was born.

A combination of precision driving, technical excellence and bravery is required to win at Monte Carlo, those traits highlight the differences between the great and the good in Formula One racing.

Daniel Ricciardo scored his 1st Fomula 1 Pole position in a thrilling qualifying session for the Monaco Grand Prix, it is Red Bull’s 1st Pole since Brazil 2013.

Mr. Ricciardo ran the course in 1m13.622s to defeat MercedesAMG’s Nico Rosberg by 0.169s.

MercedesAMG’s Lewis Hamilton produced the 3rd-fastest time, 0.32s down on pole.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel’s will start 4th ahead of Nico Hulkenberg’s Force India.

Spanish GP winner Max Verstappen, 19 anni, went from Hero to Zero when he crashed out in Q-1 at the exit of the Swimming Pool chicane. He will start at the back of the grid.

Saturday, Mr. Hamilton set the early pace in Q2 at 1m14.056s, 0.435s faster than Mr. Rosberg, who was just clear of Messrs Ricciardo and Vettel.

Mr. Rosberg ran again, but clipped the barrier on the inside at the Swimming Pool chicane. He recovered to set the fastest time of the session, his 1m14.043s beating Hamilton by 0.013s.

Teenage sensation, Max Verstappen’s crash at the exit of the Swimming Pool chicane was the big story of Q1. He had already hit the barriers at Massenet in FP3, but this was a much harder impact that removed his right-front corner.

He clipped the inside wall on the right-hander, which broke his steering, and his Red Bull racer ploughed over the kerbs and on to the scene of the accident.

Sebastian Vettel recorded the fastest time of the session at 1m14.610s, 0.216s faster than Mr. Hamilton’s 1m14.826s, who was 0.047s quicker than Mr. Rosberg. Mr. Ricciardo was three tenths off the pace in 4th.

Felipe Nasr’s Sauber expired in a cloud of smoke as he exited the tunnel on his out lap, which caused a Red Flag right at the start of the session.

Those who failed to progress into Q2 were Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson, Renault’s Jolyon Palmer, the Manors of Rio Haryanto and Pascal Wehrlein, Verstappen and Nasr.
