Ferrari could introduce an engine upgrade as early as next weekend’s Russian GP after promising results on the Scuderia’s dynamometer (dyno).

Ferrari has made inroads on MercedesAMG’s advantage this season, the Scuderia is still a bit off the pace of the World Champions.

They are working to narrow the gap and could do it as early as this weekend at the Sochi F1 circuit.

According to a source, Ferrari has been running an upgraded power unit on the dyno which they believe has “unlocked horsepower improvements.”

As such the Scuderia is considering spending three of their 9 remaining development tokens on the engine update.

Should the Team go ahead, both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen could use the improved engine as early as weekend in Sochi meaning a 3rd power unit for Mr. Vettel already this season.

Ferrari President Sergio Marchionne recently revealed that the Italian racing team was planning to introduce an “Important” upgrade.

“We have much work ahead of us, and we will bring forward an important development,” he said last weekend in China. “Also, we know that Mercedes will not stop developing, so we have no illusions that they will be easily beaten.”
