Finland’s unemployment rate increased less-than-expected in September after falling to a 9-month low in August, figures from Statistics Finland showed Tuesday.
The jobless rate rose slightly to 8.4 percent in September from 8.3 percent in the previous month. Economists had expected the rate to climb to 9.0 percent.
In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate dropped marginally to 9.3 percent in September from August’s stable rate of 9.4 percent. The youth jobless rate also fell to 22.1 percent from 22.4 percent a month ago.
The number of unemployed people increased to 225,000 in September from 222,000 in the preceding month. A year earlier, the jobless figure totaled 218,000.
The employment rate came in at 59.8 percent in September, down from 60.2 percent in the prior month.
