Ford’s New GT Supercar Bows At Detroit Fundraiser

The  all-new Ford GT Supercar makes a special appearance on 11 June in Detroit to support heart patients and important cardiovascular research taking place at the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute at Henry Ford Hospital.

The Ford GT is the embodiment of advanced Ford engineering, a showcase for technical innovations through performance, including lightweighting, aerodynamics, and ultra-efficient EcoBoost engines. Although a limited production vehicle, many technologies and processes from the GT will make their way into the full Ford lineup, from Fiesta to the F-150.

The Ford GT follows the layout of a contemporary performance machine: rear-wheel drive, mid-mounted engine and a sleek, aerodynamic 2-door coupe body shell.

The all-new Ford GT is anchored by a carbon fiber passenger cell with aluminum front and rear subframes, and is encapsulated in structural carbon fiber body panels. This lightweight construction will allow the Ford GT to deliver outstanding acceleration, handling, efficiency and safety with one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car in history.

The GT is powered by Ford’s most powerful production EcoBoost ever, a 3.5-liter next-generation twin-turbo V-6 that produces more than 600 horsepower to deliver stunning performance in a stronger, smarter package. The GT’s engine will be mated to a 7-speed paddle shift transmission for near-instantaneous gear changes and exceptional control.

Power and efficiency don’t stop there. Aerodynamic efficiency is at the heart of the design of the Ford GT, actively reducing drag while aiding downforce and stability. Every inch of the GT has been carefully designed, engineered, and mapped through advanced computation fluid dynamics and exhaustive wind tunnel testing for efficient and functional airflow.

The state-of-the-art chassis is suspended by a racing-style torsion bar suspension with active inboard dampers and adjustable ride height. At each corner, 20-inch wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot® Sport Cup 2tires that feature a unique compound and structure designed specifically for GT, and encircle massive Brembo carbon-ceramic brake discs.

Inside the GT, the seats are fixed to the carbon fiber tub, reducing weight and helping connect the driver to the chassis, while the steering column and pedals adjust to accommodate a wide range of driver statures. The bespoke, F1-style steering wheel integrates a host of control options to eliminate column stalks, providing an unimpeded reach to the paddle shifters.

The instrument cluster is fully digital and fully configurable, enabling the car to clearly provide necessary driver data while minimizing distraction. The pilot may also select from multiple driving modes, to optimize the experience depending on the venue and conditions. The drive modes will complement one of the most advanced suites of performance-tuned driver-assist technologies, including traction control, stability control, and advanced active aerodynamics.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is taking the innovations from developing this incredible supercar and applying it throughout its product lineup.

Similarly, doctors at the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute at Henry Ford Hospital are continually working together to make new advances and bring the latest treatments to patients from across Michigan.  All funds raised at the Get Your Heart Racing Pit Party on 11 June will help that cause.

Along with the Ford GT, guests will enjoy fabulous food and drinks, a fun NASCAR-themed auction featuring collector’s item sections of race cars, opportunities to mingle with NASCAR drivers Greg Biffle, Sam Hornish Jr. and the legendary Wood Brothers, plus entertainment by an surprise global music superstar.
