French consumer confidence remained unchanged in December, survey results from the statistical office Insee showed Wednesday.

The consumer sentiment index came in at 96 in December, the same reading as seen in November. It was forecast to drop to 95.

Households’ opinion of their past financial situation weakened slightly, while their opinion on future financial situation improved in December. The indicator for past situation fell by -1 point to -25 percent, while that for future financial situation rose to -7 percent from -10 percent.

Households remained almost as optimistic as in November about their saving capacity. The balance of opinion concerning their current saving capacity was virtually stable at 11 percent and the score for expected saving capacity at -4 percent.

Households’ balance of opinion of the past standard of living in France slid slightly in December. The score for past standard of living dropped by 2 points to -55 percent and that for future standard of living remained at -30 percent.

Fears of households concerning unemployment rose significantly in December. The balance rose sharply to 46 percent from 35 percent in November.
