The French current account balance showed a surplus in August, the Bank of France said Monday.

The current account surplus totaled EUR 0.2 billion in August, in contrast to a EUR 0.4 billion deficit seen a month ago.

The visible trade deficit widened to EUR 1.1 billion from EUR 0.9 billion in July. Meanwhile, the surplus on services increased to EUR 0.9 billion from EUR 0.1 billion in the previous month.

Revenues showed a positive balance of EUR 3.8 billion, the same as in July. At the same time, the shortfall in current transfers remained at EUR 3.4 billion.

The capital account showed a EUR 0.4 billion surplus after showing nil balance in July and the deficit on financial account widened to EUR 10.4 billion from EUR 9.7 billion.
