France’s industrial production growth slowed notably in September, the statistical office Insee reported Tuesday.

Industrial output grew only 0.1 percent on a monthly basis, following August’s 1.7 percent expansion. Nonetheless, economists had forecast output to show nil growth.

At the same time, manufacturing output remained flat after rising 2.2 percent in the previous month. It was expected to drop by 0.1 percent.

Among components of manufacturing, production of transport equipment slid 1.5 percent and other manufacturing dropped 0.7 percent.

In construction, output decreased 1.7 percent, reversing a 1.1 percent rise in August.

Over the third quarter, output gained only 0.1 percent in the manufacturing sector and increased moderately by 0.4 percent in the overall industry.
