French industrial production recovered at a faster than expected pace in January, the statistical office Insee reported Thursday.
Industrial output grew 1.3 percent month-on-month, reversing a 0.6 percent fall in December. Economists had forecast a 0.8 percent increase. This was the fastest growth in five months.
Similarly, manufacturing output climbed 0.8 percent after staying flat in December. The rate of growth exceeded the expected 0.5 percent.
In construction, output surged 7.3 percent in contrast to a 3.1 percent fall in the previous month.
Likewise, output of mining and quarrying, energy, water supply and waste management gained 4.9 percent after falling 4.4 percent in December.
In three months to January, manufacturing output rose 0.5 percent sequentially, whereas it diminished 0.3 percent in the whole industry.
