The French manufacturing sector logged a slight growth in October, final data published by Markit showed Monday.
The manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index remained unchanged at 50.6 in October. It was slightly below the flash score of 50.7.
Output increased for second straight month in October but the rate of growth remained moderate. Production levels were supported by a return to growth of new orders for the first time in one-and-a-half years.
Employment across the French manufacturing sector continued to fall, marking a nineteenth successive monthly decline.
Input prices decreased for the second month and output prices fell as firms passed on lower costs to consumers.
“Although remaining inside expansion territory, growth continues to be fragile,” Jack Kennedy, a senior economist at Markit, said. “The fact that employment fell at the sharpest rate in ten months suggests that firms are hardly gearing up for a sustained upturn.”
