Gold was flat yet again Tuesday morning amid uncertainty about when the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates.

Policy makers seemed determined to lift rates before year’s end, but weak economic data may be signalling a third consecutive winter lull is coming.

If so, the Fed will likely hold off on hiking rates until next year.

In the meantime, U.S. gold for December was unchanged at $1138 an ounce.

Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank President Esther George is due to speak in Chicago at 9:15 am ET.

Additionally, San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank John Williams will deliver an outlook speech in San Francisco at 3:30 pm ET.
