Greece’s unemployment rate dropped for the second straight month in August, figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 24.6 percent in August from 24.9 percent in July, which was revised down from 25.0 percent. Economists had expected the unemployment rate to fall to 24.9 percent.
In the corresponding month of the previous year, the jobless rate was 26.2 percent.
The number of unemployed people decreased by 15,740 from the preceding month and by 78,084 from a year ago.
At the same time, the number of employed grew by 67,426 persons in August compared with last year and by 10,662 persons against July.
The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, dropped to 47.9 percent in August from 49.8 percent a year earlier.
