Greece’s unemployment rate decreased more-than-expected in the three months ended June, figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.
The jobless rate fell to 24.6 percent in the second quarter from 26.6 percent in the previous quarter. Economists had forecast the rate to decrease to 25.3 percent.
In the corresponding period last year, the unemployment rate was the same 26.6 percent.
The number of unemployed people decreased by 7.3 percent quarterly to 1.2 million in the three-month period to June.
The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, dropped notably to 49.5 percent in the second quarter from 52.0 percent in the respective period of the prior year.
