Greece’s retail sales declined at a faster rate in January, preliminary figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.

Retail sales fell 3.8 percent year-over-year in January, much faster than the 0.2 percent slight decrease in the previous month. Sales have been falling since June last year.

Except automotive fuel, retail sales dipped 2.0 percent in January from a year ago.

Sales of food products slid 2.8 percent annually in January and those of non-food products, excluding automotive fuel, dropped by 1.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, retail sales decreased a seasonally adjusted 1.6 percent at the start of the year, reversing a 1.8 percent climb in December.
