Hungary’s consumer prices rose unexpectedly in October after falling in the previous month, figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Tuesday.
The consumer price index edged up 0.1 percent year-over-year in October, reversing a 0.4 percent fall in September. Economists had expected prices to remain flat in October.
Core consumer prices climbed 1.5 percent annually in October and rose 0.3 percent from the preceding month.
Food prices grew 1.7 percent in October and that for clothing and footwear went up by 0.5 percent. At the same time, utility costs dropped 0.4 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 0.2 percent in October, in contrast to a 0.6 percent decrease in the previous month.
Economists had forecast a 0.1 percent rise for the month. It was the first increase in three months.
The EU measure of inflation, or HICP, increased 0.2 percent annually and inched up 0.3 percent monthly in October.
