Hungary’s foreign trade surplus increased more-than-expected in July, as exports grew faster than imports, preliminary figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Wednesday.
The trade surplus grew notably to EUR 674.2 million in July from EUR 438.3 million in the corresponding month last year. Economists had forecast the surplus to rise to EUR 625 million.
Exports climbed 5.4 percent year-over-year in July and imports rose by 2.3 percent. The share of EU member states was 79 percent in exports and 78 percent in imports.
In the first seven months of the year, total trade surplus of the country was EUR 4.9 billion versus EUR 3.7 billion in the same period of the preceding year. Both exports and imports surged by 7.6 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively.
