Hungary’s unemployment rate decreased less-than-expected in the three months ended August, figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Tuesday.
The unemployment rate dropped slightly to 6.7 percent in the June to August period from 6.8 percent in the May to July period. Economists had expected the the jobless rate to fall to 6.6 percent.
In the corresponding period of the previous year, the jobless rate was 7.7 percent.
The number of unemployed people decreased to 303,800 in the three-month period to August from 305,800 in the previous three months. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 343,100.
The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, decreased by 3.7 percent to 18.2 percent in the June to August period.
At the same time, the employment rate rose to 56.4 percent in the three months ended August from 56.0 percent in the previous three-month period.
