Hungary’s foreign trade surplus increased more-than-expected in October from a year ago, as exports grew faster than imports, preliminary figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Thursday.
The trade surplus climbed notably to EUR 603.3 million in October from EUR 283.2 million in the corresponding month last year. Economists had expected the surplus to rise to EUR 480 million.
Exports surged 8.4 percent year-over-year in October and imports went up by 4.3 percent. The share of EU member states was 80 percent in exports and 76 percent in imports.
In the January to October period, total trade surplus of the country was EUR 6.8 billion versus EUR 5.32 billion in the same period of the preceding year. Both exports and imports rose by 7.4 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively.
