Hungary’s retail sales growth moderated at a faster-than-expected pace in May, preliminary data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Tuesday.

Retail sales climbed a calendar-adjusted 5.7 percent year-over-year in May, slower than April’s 6.7 percent climb. That was also below economists’ expectations for a 5.9 percent gain.

Sales of food, drinks and tobacco grew 4.4 percent annually in May and those of non-food products rose by 6.8 percent. Retail sales of automotive fuel alone advanced by 9.0 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, retail sales expanded 6.8 percent in May from a year ago.

The statistical office is set to release final sales figures for May on July 2015.
