Iceland’s unemployment rate declined for the second straight month to an 80-month low in June, data from Statistics Iceland revealed Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 3.2 percent in June from 4.4 percent in the previous month. In April, the rate was at 4.7 percent. This is the lowest since October 2008, when the rate was 2.8 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the jobless rate dropped sharply to 2.9 percent in June from 6.8 percent in the preceding month. In April, the rate was 5.6 percent.

The number of unemployed people fell to 5,800 from 13,200 in the previous month, while unemployed individuals declined to a seasonally adjusted 6,100 from 8,600.

The employment rate climbed to 84.1 percent in June from 78.5 percent in May. The number of employed people increased to 196,400 from 182,900. The activity rate rose to 86.6 percent from 84.2 percent.
