Indonesia’s consumer price inflation accelerated in April, data from the Central Statistics Agency showed Monday.
The consumer price index rose 6.79 percent year-over-year in April, faster than previous month’s 6.38 percent climb. Economists had expected a 6.8 percent increase for the month.
Food prices grew 6.29 percent annually in April and utility costs increased by 7.52 percent. Costs for transportation, communication and financial services also surged 7.85 percent.
Core consumer prices, which excludes food and fuel, climbed 5.02 percent in April from the previous year and went up 1.49 percent from the preceding month.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 0.36 percent in April, following a 0.17 percent hike in March.
